Our robotics team has relatively high visibility in the local area.
SPIKE often participates in community activities, such as "Pennington
Day", a celebration of the community surrounding the Hopewell Valley
Central High School. Usually the students design a mini-robot in the
off season to play a game with kids. Games include knocking over pins
and catching hacky sacs and are always child friendly. SPIKE also
participates in the "Hopewell Cleanup", a day-long cleaning of the
roads in the local area as a fund raiser and as a way to help out in
the community. In 2009 the team were commissioned by the local police
to design a target practice robot that would help train personnel. They
came up with a durable and easy to use robot that could drive in rough
terrain and withstand bullets.
Here are some clips of team activity from local newspapers: |
